We may not admit it, but we have all swooned over fictional characters. Be it a literary, movie, or TV character, we have all dreamed about meeting someone like them in real life.
Falling in love with the aloof and mysterious Mr. Darcy just cannot be helped. Or what about Tom Cruise’ Jerry Maguire? We all shook in the knees when he said, “You had me at ‘hello.'”
However, there are some characters you need to steer clear of if you want to save yourself from heartache. Remember, these are merely archetypes. They all have male and female versions.
Dracula doesn’t only suck your blood but he also sucks your bank account. If the person you are dating doesn’t know the concept of “going Dutch,” then perhaps it’s time to send that bloodsucker a packin’.
2. Pepe Le Pew
You may love his accent, he may be pleasant to look at, but if he has questionable hygiene, then I suggest you look for someone else who’s willing to at least shower for you. Good hygiene is very important. You wouldn’t want his stinky pit’s aroma to stick to your clothes, would you?
3. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Steer clear of people with dual personality. They go from cold to hot in a matter of seconds without the slightest provocation. Their temper cannot be controlled at times, especially when there’s no one else around but you. Find a more stable partner so there are no surprises.
Although not technically a fictional character, Casanova was portrayed in movies like Adventures of Casanova (1948). He was a famous Venetian explorer and author. He was also a serial womanizer, one of the worst types of people you can date. If you want someone who’ll take you seriously, then don’t start anything with this historical player.
If Casanova is a serial womanizer, Pinocchio is a pathological liar. He just can’t help himself. It’s a condition. He lies about his life, where he went to school, the people he knows. He exaggerates the importance of his job. His aversion to the truth is inexplicable. Please stay away from Pinocchio, unless you don’t mind questioning everything he tells you.
6. Debbie Downer
Debbie Downer is perhaps one of the most toxic people on earth. She manages to sour the happiest occasions. She’s not a “glass half empty” kind of girl. To her, the glass is completely empty. She just says the most awful things and turns everything she touches into ash. Her negativity is contagious and she will suck the joy and the life out of you.
Gaston, from Beauty and the Beast, is the modern day Narcissus. He’s more in love with himself than he will ever be with you. It takes him hours to get ready for a date, and just cannot resist to check himself out in the mirror. You will never have his full attention for he’s always thinking about whether his shoes go well with his outfit.
8. Peter Pan
Peter Pan may be cool as a cartoon character, but a boy who never grows up is definitely not an ideal partner. As your relationship deepens, you’ll want someone who can mature with you. Peter Pan is not the most reliable partner for he doesn’t know how to be one. He has the mental age of a teenager. He can’t make grown up decisions without first consulting his parents.
Before you take the person you are dating seriously, watch out for red flags. He or she might be one of these characters you should stay away from.
